Yakitate Japan - Episode 18
When I was watching this episode last night, I realized that this is the funniest anime series I’ve ever watched in my life. Mind you, I’ve watched a freakin lot of anime series. But out of everything I’ve seen, not a single one has made me constantly laugh as much as Yakitate Japan does. The concept sounds stupid and boring. After all, it is the story of a boy who wants to be a bread baker. But the visual gags are completely ridiculous and pulled off in perfect form. When someone asks me about what’s the difference between Japanese animation and American animation, one of the things I tell them is that the Japanese have a different sense of humor then we do, so their cartoons are not nearly as funny as say The Simpsons or Family Guy. But Yakitate is the exception to the rule, and it’s got me rolling off of my seat from laughing so much. But surprising it’s not being blogged so much out there. So even if it’s 18 episodes into the series, I’m picking it up.

First of all, the reason why Yakitate is so great is that it does have a very serious and genuine storyline mixed in with its antics. And this episode gets the most serious with the story on the death of Tsukino’s mother. It was very heart wrenching and did bring on a few tears from this blogger. So I give the series credit for taking such a risk.
We’re also introduced to two new characters. First comes Kyousuke’s opponent in the next round, Kanmuri-kun. Now she looks like a girl, and I’m convinced that she is a girl. But the language they use tells you (painfully obviously, I might add) that they all consider her a guy. We’ll just wait and see what comes of that. And then we’re introduced to the most evil of all the characters in the series, Tsukino’s half sister Yukino. God, what a bitch! I hope that they kick her ass as soon as possible.
But my LMAO moment this episode: The store manager putting on a Tsukino mask and poorly imitating her multiple times.
