Ichigo 100% - OVA 1

Oh, yesy, you magnificent bastards! This group came along when there was a backlog of Mai HiME episodes to funsub, and then they proceeded to owned that series! These guys would take a new episode, fansub it, and then post that shit on the net even before you knew that the raw was out! These guys are quick and pretty damn good, so I’m thrilled that they’re going to follow up HiME with Ichigo 100%!

OP:

Episode:

First of all, let me make this clear: unlike the TV show this episode takes place in the middle of the series, not the beginning! It’s part of a promotion for Shounen Jump, so it’s made with the assumption that you’re current with the manga storyline. All the characters are thrown at you without introductions or clues on what their relationships are to one another. Since we don’t know how much of the series the TV show will cover, I suggest holding out seeing this episode until after the TV season is over.

That being said, I’m just as satisfied with this episode as I was with the TV show. It takes place during one of my favorite moments in the series. We also see the introduction of my favorite character, the innocent Yui, and most other fan’s favorite, the sexy Satsuki . Also Junpei’s perverted classmate Hitoshi and his sister Misuzu (it took me a while to remember who she was ^^;;) also premere in this episode. All their VAs are as great as the others. There’s a lot more ecchi moments in this episode then there was in the TV show, but that’s because the series became far more ecchi in this part of the story then it was in the beginning. We still have yet to see just how naughty it’s gonna be on TV. However, I do have to point out how ridiculously unnecessary it was to have a sudden gust of wind come by at one scene just for a cheap Toujou panty shot.

There are a couple of really clear differences from the OVA to the TV. First of all, the music is much better in this version. The OP is different with a better song while they visually show how Junpei was introduced to the four main girls. The EP is just showing stills from the episode, but the song is seriously lacking the horror that was para-para Venga Boys :-P . However, the art just isn’t as good as it was in the TV series. Yes, it was much more clean and colorful, but they messed up when it comes to capturing the unique style of the manga. Of course Yui is still just as cute as she is in the manga, but I just didn’t feel that way with Nisho. They were able to do it in the TV series, what went wrong in the OVA?

I also realized just what makes the whole series so great to me, but this review has gone on long enough. So enjoy the episode and I’ll dive more into my Ichigo theory come my next review of the TV show ^_^!
